it began with a slightly panicked teams call

“Can we just say no? Heather, our wonderfully talented Creative Director asked. We were pivoting on an ask to reuse raw footage from a 2021 TV commercial to edit a new one. The only problem being that:

  • The original production company that shot said commercial wanted 4 weeks and nearly 6 figures to edit and version all the paid media.

  • We needed a completely re-branded version of our Speedway brand (A company we didn’t even own in 2021)

  • The live date for this commercial was in 2 weeks.

"I guess this is a downside to being an internal agency" joked my manager. All eyes in the room turned to me.

Did I mention we had less than 2 weeks?

11 DAYS

That’s how long it took to go from raw footage to 64 unique final assets.

Working under the direction of 7-Eleven’s Senior Producer, Jerod Couch, I began editing the 7-Eleven and Speedway versions. I quickly reached picture-lock with expedited approvals from our brand team and 7-Eleven’s CMO, Marissa Jarett.

No sign shot?

No problem.

In 2021, We didn’t own our speedway brand, so I created a 3D neon Speedway logo sign in Blender and matched it to the original 7-Eleven neon sign shot.

Version Now. Sleep Later.

With approvals for the main 16x9 versions of both 7-Eleven and Speedway green-lit, I wasted no time versioning out all 64 final versions in both English and Spanish to hand off the last of our assets just 3 days before the live date.
